Gerry + Heidi (+ their Leap of Faith)

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

High school sweethearts they were.  And high school sweethearts they still are. I’ve heard the stories and can see them in my mind – they met while ‘cruising’ the strip in town, as the kids used to do back in the day ;) Pulling up alongside each other, stealing glances…and anyone who knows Heidi, knows that when she sets her sights on something (or someone) there’s no stopping her. Gerry was hers.

I’ve been blessed to get to work with Heidi at Sevenoaks for the past two and a half years, and blessed to witness the incredible love that she and her husband Gerry share. They know how to make a marriage last. Not only that, but I suspect that the spark I saw between them was the same they shared so many years ago. Yet deeper. I loved being able to document some of that with my camera, their giddiness and laughter, and as I looked through the images on my computer that night, suddenly found myself tearing up.

Heidi and Gerry know the meaning of commitment, for better or worse, maybe more than they’d like to. Gerry was diagnosed with MS many years back and it’s been an uphill battle for the two of them. Especially now, as Gerry has been facing a declining memory and possible dementia. As impossibly scary as that is, he has a strong wife in Heidi; she’s a fighter, and she sacrificially cares for her Gerry day in and day out. And here’s the really exciting part! There may be a solution that can reverse the immense pain and fatigue, and put an end to Gerry’s memory loss. If tests confirm what they suspect, that his MS symptoms are the result from thinned or blocked veins, he will have an angioplasty. And voila. We’re praying that Gerry will find the same, successful results as other MS patients have had. Gerry can explain it better than I, so if you have a couple minutes, please click here and here!

And then return to see a few photos from our session!

Max keeps Gerry company while Heidi’s at work, and joined in for a few pictures. These were taken in between the circles he ran around us!

Gerry takes great care of his garden (as is so very evident) and so while the pretty bouquet was Heidi’s, it really was his ;)

Gerry’s upcoming tests & treatment will take them to Los Cabos, Mexico!  Heidi wanted to symbolize their ‘leap of faith’ in true Heidi fashion :) Love you guys!
