A Girl and a Horse: Portraits

Monday, September 20, 2010

I love it when clients choose fantastic locations that reflect a part of who they are. It creates a connection between them and the images, but before that even happens, it allows for a comfortable and fun backdrop for those images to be created.

Amy had spent hours building a bond with Austin, a beautiful Haflinger therapy horse, so it was natural to get her ‘ten year old photos’ taken with him. Last year I got to take Amy’s sister, Bethany’s, ten year photos too – something special their parents wanted done, rather than your basic school photo. Just as we arrived at the farm, the sunlight disappeared behind a wall of foreboding clouds…no rain fell but there was plenty of thunder and wonderful light to make things interesting.

Amy, Austin and the farm’s owner and therapist Judy do hippotherapy together – using the movement of the horse, physical, occupational, and speech therapy treatment is given.

Amy had to say goodbye to Austin as he was leaving for another farm…

I love these two of Amy…

Amy read my mind when she suggested the above left photo…

…but then this horse wouldn’t let her back in!

Thanks for a great session, Amy! I had a lot of fun. And for thanks for introducing me to Austin! All the best to you both :)

My favorite is the 7th one, the right image in the diptych – such a beautiful capture of a beautiful girl!
