Whitney + Manolo, a Love Shoot

Thursday, January 13, 2011

They met over a love of food, a culmination of two passions – one for baking, one for cooking. Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts brought Whitney and Manolo together, from two different worlds; he from a town outside of Mexico City, she from a town outside of Vancouver. She drove 2+  hours each day for school, facing 5 am mornings and battling traffic, but in the end…it more than paid off.

He opens the door for her, calls her bonita, and cares for her when she’s sick. She laughs a little more, her smile is a little brighter…and her voice is a little louder! (I bug her about this – it happens when she talks excitedly or is on the phone. Like, with him. Which is often!) And together they’re loving the potential the future holds, and doing so in delicious, culinary fashion!

They were SO much fun to shoot – they made my job a breeze!

Goooorgeous, I must say…and it wasn’t just the pretty light…

Not just a pretty picture

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

A smooth, lavender latte, Belgian waffles with mixed berries and a stimulating conversation with a lovely, new photographer friend have left me with a heart stirring and mind running with thoughts and ideas. Ways in which to grow as a creative. There was talk of dreams and what makes a photograph art, talk of the importance of a connection with a photo. To not just take a picture for the sake of a pretty picture. It has to be more personal than that. I so love being able to connect with others in this industry…those who are like-minded but have their own way of seeing things. Getting into conversations can lead to all sorts of things and places. And as I walked down the city street back to my car, and the faintest of snowflakes fell from the silver sky, I felt a sense of new motivation, refreshed.

A sneak peek of another post to come…

Meghan + Shane + Hudson

Monday, January 10, 2011

Meet Hudson, almost one year old and already so handsome. I met up with him and his parents, Meghan and Shane, in Ft Langley for a few family photos. H’s grandparents and aunt were also along for a couple group photos, and were so helpful in the baby entertainer department :) Poor Hudson was battling a cold, so this job took extra effort. We rolled with it, though, had some fun and still got (what I think!) are some great photos.

We also grabbed a few photos of just Meghan and Shane…

Such a photogenic group of people…

And then it was over to Meghan + Shane’s condo for part two…

Part two included this awesome birthday cake made by Meghan…

We attempted a ‘cake smash’ but this is as far as Hudson would take it :) Too great a cake to smash, anyways!

Thank you all for a great morning! And birthday wishes to Hudson :)

Engagement: Narissa + Ashi

Friday, January 7, 2011

Oh what love can do. Love can answer your prayers, your dreams, can take your expectations and make them explode in a thousand unbelievable ways.

The last time I saw Narissa, Christmas 2009, she was a single girl who had just been set up on a coffee date by one of her professors back in Chicago. One year later, Christmas 2010, Narissa, my cousin and dear friend, is ENGAGED! I met her fiance, Ashi, just moments before our engagement session. And the entire time, as I observed them through my camera lens, I saw something different in Narissa. I saw for myself what this love had done, evident on her face, and in her voice. I grew to like Ashi very much, very quickly because of this. And more. Like the way they are together…

What’s a shoot in the snow without a little snow fight? :) Great way to wrap up the session! Narissa, I’ve never seen you happier…and Ashi, thank you for giving her that smile. We’ll let you keep her ;) See you in Chicago for the wedding! Much love.

Things I Love Thursday

Thursday, January 6, 2011

It’s somewhat shameful how long it’s been since I last wrote a Things post. We won’t talk specifics, but its been awhile. I won’t make up excuses, like how Christmas came and nearly knocked me off my feet, or how much time I’ve spent pouring over details for my upcoming website (perfectionist? maybe).

This post is about new years resolutions and lists. One thing I hate, one thing I love. New years resolutions may work for some, and may have the best intentions at heart, but the way I see it, they’re asking to be broken. How many of you go to a gym that sees a huge boom in January? It’s a challenge to find a decent parking spot and then someone takes your spot in your favorite class. And then come February/March…things…taper…off…

So. I’m not making any resolutions. I’m making a list. A fresh set of goals. That’s totally different, right? No matter how many lists I’ve got going, and no matter how many forms of lists I have (cell phone, stickies on my laptop, random scraps of paper) they make me feel organized and efficient. And this is a look of what I’ve got down for 2011:

1. more time with God – to include daily Bible reading and prayer.
2. write more often – this would most likely happen here, on my blog. There are so many things in my life right now that I want to remember.
3. read more – I miss getting caught up in a good novel…
4. stress less – anxiety won’t get me anywhere but crazy. I’ve got to trust more in God; he brought me to where I am today, and I’m pretty sure he won’t up and leave me hanging. Actually, I know for sure.

Happy Thursday, happy January, happy Twenty-eleven! :) What are your goals for the new year?

Engagement: Victoria + Kacper

Monday, January 3, 2011

She couldn’t wipe the smile from her face. He couldn’t keep from wrapping his arms around her…and cracking jokes. Which only made her smile even more, though with a couple, good-natured rolls of the eyes. Victoria and Kacper may have spent more time apart – he in Ontario, she here in BC – than together over the course of their relationship. But distance didn’t seem to come between these two, it only brought them closer. We took advantage of Kacper’s time at home over Christmas to get these engagement photos…

Many thanks and a happy New Year to you  both! Looking forward to your Brock House wedding this summer!

Vancouver Engagement: Aimee + Ryan

Thursday, December 30, 2010

I’m not even sure where to begin with writing this post. How incredibly cute these two are together? How much fun? How I can’t wait to document them as they become husband and wife this February? How so excited I am to see my dear friend Aimee find and marry her love?

Aimee and I have been friends for several years, beginning back when she was one of my managers at American Eagle! We have seen each other through some highs and lows and have talked each other through different relationships. But this one is different. This one is for keeps! Aimee and Ryan have a history that won’t let them go, and now that they have found each other again, they have found their future in each other as well.

We started their engagement session on Granville Island in Vancouver…

Isn’t she going to be a stunning bride?!

And then a trip to the Pan Pacific and an outfit change later…

Hot from beginning to end…

Ending with a couple of my favorites… Aimee and Ryan, thank you for such a great time together! I now eagerly await your upcoming Swan-E-Set wedding :) xo
